
They gave youngsters the opportunity to use the fire hose. Children enjoyed learning
police tactics during their visit.
The RUPD Newark Command staff hosted a very successful 2024 “Bring Your Kids to Work Day.”
The children who attended experienced “A Day in the Life of a Rutgers Police Officer”. The Junior Police Officers were sworn in by RUPD Police Chief Carmelo V. Huertas, Jr. RUPD Sgt. Lakeisha Minor and Officer Marie Bristol provided the children with their “uniform” and badges, and then took them on a guided tour where the Junior Police Officers learned about the equipment utilized daily by police officers.
Physical training instruction and demonstrations followed, and the Junior Officers worked collaboratively to solve a crime: the theft of a very expensive Mac Book Pro. As a result, every Junior Officer was promoted to Junior Police Detective.
The Newark Fire Department Engine No. 7 dropped by and showcased their fire engine and allowed our Junior Officers to use the fire hose and other tools.
