How do I purchase an E-permit?

Visit parkingbase.com/c/rutgers/login and login to your parking portal account with your NetID and password.

How can faculty and staff purchase daily parking permits?

Faculty/Staff may purchase up to 10 daily parking permits each fiscal year from the parking portal account.

  1. Sign in using your NetID at My Parking Account.
    • The system will automatically display your permit options. You must select the Daily tab on the upper left-hand side to purchase the daily permit.
    • Select the date and time frame for parking, along with the location. The parking fee is $5.00 for the first 8 hours, with an additional $5.00 fee for every additional 8 hours.
      • Follow the prompts to complete the transaction.

Daily permits are allowed to park in common Faculty/Staff lots on all campuses except in Rutgers Health Newark decks.

Permits/Reservations listed as Unused expire on the date of purchase and cannot be updated for future dates. No refunds on daily permits.

How can I pay for parking?

Employees can pay by pre-tax payroll deduction or with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover)

Will I receive a physical permit pass?

Obtain a Virtual Parking Permit

Rutgers uses license plate recognition (LPR). You will not receive a hang tag or sticker. The E-Permit system eliminates the need for hangtags and paper tickets, aligns with our commitment to the environment, and provides you with a convenient, paperless, self-managed parking pass system. You are still required to follow our rules and regulations. Any citations that result from parking violations are emailed to you.

Can I add multiple vehicles to my parking permit?

Yes, you can add multiple vehicles to your permit. However, only one vehicle can be parked on campus at a time. If more than one vehicle is parking on campus this will result in an Improper Use citation being issued to each vehicle.

Where can I park?

Faculty/staff may only park in lots designated for faculty/staff: ipo.rutgers.edu/parking/permits/faculty-staff

Please make sure your plate faces the driving aisle at all times. If your state does not have a front plate, then you cannot back into a parking stall.

Availability of parking stalls is not guaranteed with a parking permit. Non-availability of space in specific stalls or lots does not excuse illegal or improper parking. If there are no available stalls in your designated area, you should go to the next available lot allowed by your permit.

I just purchased a new vehicle with temporary tags. Do I need to register it?

Yes, please register any new vehicle, even if it has temporary tags, that you will be parking on campus. Temporary tags must be registered as a license plate number, not a VIN number.

Once the permanent plates are received, revisit your parking portal account and add your new plates. Make sure your license plate is entered correctly; one letter or number off will result in a virtual ticket.

Please make sure to include the state on the plate that was issued.

I have state handicap accessibility. How do I register for Parking?

Parking in handicapped stalls requires a valid Rutgers parking permit. Prior to parking on campus, you must register your ADA placard (temporary or permanent) and registration card at the time of permit purchase; otherwise, submit a case through DOTSHelp.

I see a lot of reserved spaces available. Am I able to park there?

No. Reserved spaces are designated for specific individuals within the university.

I received a paper or electronic parking citation and do not believe I deserved it. How do I dispute it?

Parking citations may be issued electronically or as paper citations placed on a vehicle, depending on the device used to scan the license plate (License Plate Recognition (LPR) or handheld device).

Vehicles registered to an active Rutgers parking permit: If the vehicle is registered to an active Rutgers parking permit at the time the citation is issued, you may receive both a paper citation placed on the vehicle and an electronic citation sent to the email address on record.

Vehicles not registered to an active Rutgers parking permit: A paper citation may be placed on the vehicle. If the registered vehicle owner is identified through a DMV report, the citation will also be mailed to the owner's address on file via the U.S. Postal Service. For citations mailed via the U.S. Postal Service, the appeal deadline is extended. Please refer to the deadline indicated on the mailed violation notice, as it reflects the applicable appeal period.

How to Appeal a Citation

You can appeal your paper or electronic citation through your parking portal account. Visit parkingbase.com/c/rutgers/login and log in using your NetID and password. If you do not have a NetID and password, you can appeal using rutgersuniversity.netlify.app.

For citations mailed via the U.S. Postal Service, please refer to the appeal deadline indicated on the mailed violation notice.

Appeals are reviewed in the order they are received. Processing times may vary. An email notification will be sent when your appeal has been reviewed and adjudicated.

Citations will be upheld if any of the following reasons are the basis for the appeal:

  • Couldn't find a legal parking space.
  • Didn't know policies or regulations.
  • Didn't see posted restrictions.
  • Couldn't find a convenient parking space.
  • Had four-way flashers on (emergency flashers).
  • Didn't have enough time to park properly.
How can I pay for my virtual ticket?

You may pay your citation online through the parking website using a credit or debit card.

I have a rental vehicle. What do I do about parking?

Log in to your parking portal account and add the Rental vehicle’s information: Add, Edit, Remove Vehicles

Keep in mind you are required to end the rental car relationship to your permit once it is returned.

Do I need to purchase a permit if I only plan to park on campus at night and on the weekends?

Yes. Any vehicle parking on university property must purchase a permit.
