Lt. Jamie Hendrix, RUPD Newark, has been selected to receive the Rutgers College Class of 1962 Presidential Public Service Award for this academic years 2023-2024.
Hendrix was informed of the honor in a letter from Rutgers University president, Jonathan Holloway. The award includes an honorarium of $2,500. Hendrix and other honorees are also invited to a May reception at the president’s house.
“Lt. Hendrix works tirelessly to keep our campus communities safe,” said Carmelo Huertas, Director, Public Safety, RUPD Newark. “Through her community policing program, she has fostered important relationships throughout Newark. She has made a huge impact not only leading the collection and delivery of items in need to our surrounding communities, but she continually delivers goodwill along the way. We are all very proud of her accomplishments and equally proud that President Holloway has taken tome to recognize her dedication.”
In 2004, Lt. Hendrix became the first Community Service officer on the Newark Campus. It was through this student program that she learned about the Rutgers Police Department and in 2005, she became a security officer and entered the police academy. When a police officer position opened, Hendrix was hired in the first group.
In 2009, Hendrix was elevated to Sergeant, and in 2011, Lieutenant. A Rutgers graduate, Hendrix holds a BS in Criminology and in Sociology. She also completed her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration.
Congratulations Lt. Hendrix!
